A total of twenty (20) athletes from Holy Cross of Davao were chosen to become part of the Philippine contingent to compete in the 2019 Arafura Games, April 26-May 4 in Arafura, Australia.
These 20 of the best athletes of HCDC – 15 in basketball, 3 in Athletics, and 2 in Beach Volleyball, along with the most competent players from different schools and colleges in the country, played well during the Philippine Collegiate Champions League, and were handpicked to represent the Philippines in the international sports arena.
“Our athletes are always seen to be playing with a sportsman-like conduct, that’s why they were strongly recommended to be part of the line-up. They are always being reminded to live up with the core values of the HCDC sports programs”, HCDC Sports Coordinator Rudy Salvador said.
The sports coordinator added that they are not only good in their chosen sport but they also excel in academics, saying, “one cannot be without the other. You can never be called a good athlete if your academic performance is not good”.
Salvador also pointed out that HCDC athletes consistently play with both excellence and passion, embodying at the same time the value of stewardship and sportsmanship to their team mates, coaches, and their opponents as well. (by Shania Daphne Donga, MassCom Intern)
