To recognize Mindanao’s significance and commemorate its contribution to the Philippine cinema, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) held its 6th Family and Child Summit at the Sedes Sapientiae Auditorium, Holy Cross of Davao College last September 7.

With the theme, “Mindanao and its Place in Philippine Cinema History”, the summit centered on the importance and vital contribution of Mindanaoan films in the Philippine cinema.

The event was headed by MTRCB Chairperson Rachel Arenas, and graced by the presence of the board members, influential personalities from the film and television industry and several speakers who discussed topics on the history and current setting of Philippine films.

Among the renowned resource speakers who imparted their knowledge in the industry were award-winning Mindanaoan Film Directors Arnel “Arbi” Barbarona, Lou Rafael “Dax” Cañedo and Nawruz Paguidopon; MTRCB Board Member and University of the Philippines Professor, Roland Tolentino; and National Council for Children’s Television Member and Public Relations Thought Expert, Mr. Ramon “Bong” Osorio.

The summit was divided into morning and afternoon sessions and was participated by communication students from Cabantian National High School, Davao City National High School, University of Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University and Holy Cross of Davao College.

The participants had the chance to watch through a free film showing of a proudly Mindanaoan-made, Nawruz Paguidopon-megged and Gawad Urian Nominee for Documentary, “God Bliss Our Home”.
