Linking Research and Policy to Education and Social Development

The Center for Research at the Holy Cross of Davao College organizes the HCDC International Research Congress 2023 with its theme “Linking Research and Policy to Education and Social Development” at HCDC main campus on May 4-5, 2023. This event aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for educators, researchers, students, and industry practitioners from various sectors to share and discuss their research findings.

Dr. Tan Seng Chee

Dr. Seng Chee TAN is the Associate Dean (Graduate Education by Research), Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning, National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is leading the PhD, Doctor in Education, and Master’s by Research programmes in NIE. 

Dr. Linda Lumayag

Dr. Linda Lumayag is a research fellow at Ungku Aziz Center for Development Studies, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Previously, she worked at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Universiti Malaysia Sarawak as the Head, Politics and Government Studies.

Dr. Ryan Tans

Dr. Ryan Tans is a Lecturer in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Yale-NUS College, where he teaches courses on development, climate change, research methods, and Southeast Asia. 

Dr. Randy Tudy

Dr. Randy A. Tudy is the author of several books, including Doing Qualitative Research: A Practical Guide for Student Researchers and Learning the Fundamentals of Quantitative Research. He is the editor of the books used by basic education students and published by the Diocesan Printing Press, Inc. and Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS).

Dr. James Dorsey

James M. Dorsey is an adjunct senior research fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, non-resident senior fellow at the Begin–Sadat Center for Strategic Studies of Bar-Ilan University and co-director of the Institute of Fan Culture at the University of Würzburg in Germany. 

Prof. Maya Khemlani David

Prof. Maya Khemlani David is an Honorary Professor at Asia Europe Institute, University of Malaya. She is also an Associate member of the International Institute of Public Policy and Management (IMPUMA) University of Malaya. She is an Honorary Fellow & Member of Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK) and is an exco member of an international NGO – Foundation of Endangered Languages (FEL). She received the Linguapax Award for her renowned researches on language maintenance & shift and endangered communities.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

To facilitate the submission process, please consider the following guidelines, details, and specified conditions and deadlines mentioned.

Abstract Notification of Acceptance:
January 15, 2023

Early Registration: January 15, 2023 – February 15, 2023

  • USD 50 discount for foreign attendees/presenters
  • Php 500 discount for Philippine-based attendees/presenters

Regular Registration: February 16, 2023 to April 15, 2023

Steps to Follow for your Abstract Submission

Once you have prepared your abstract according to the above guidelines,

2. After submission, you will be acknowledged for receiving the abstract via email.
3. Presenters/Participants will be notified via email once their paper is accepted.

Then, a copy of the payment receipt must be attached to the registration form. The registration committee will verify the payment within 7 days.

Biographical Note:

Aries Dahan Gan completed his Master’s Degree in English as a Second Language (MESL) at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Certificate in Teaching English to Adults (CELTA) at International House World Organization, London, United Kingdom. He has taught for over 10 years at various universities in Malaysia and the Middle East. His research interests are in cross-cultural communication and discourse analysis.

Oral Research Presentation Guidelines
The time allocated for each presenter is 20 minutes (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for question and answer). 

Please take note that the session chair will be strict in timekeeping, so please stick to the time allotted in each presentation. 

Below are some of the specific guidelines that the presenters must be aware of:

  1. If you are using the PowerPoint Presentation, make sure that you save it on a thumb drive. 
  2. If you are using videos or audio for your presentation, test them before the presentation starts.
  3. If you are using your own computer, please ask for assistance to connect before your presentation.
Conference Output: Publication
Selected papers will have an opportunity to publish in Crossian Journal of Multidisciplinary Research, the official journal publication of the Holy Cross of Davao College.

The author has until 30 May 2022 to submit the completed paper in IMRaD format: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion (maximum of 10 pages).

Peer Review Process
To ensure the quality of the research paper that will be published in this journal, the editorial board will check the manuscript’s completeness and adherence to the format. Each selected research paper will be sent to three (3) blind reviewers to check the content, methodology, data, referencing, and grammatical lapses. The reviewer’s comments and suggestions will be forwarded to the proponents to address the necessary changes. The revised manuscript must be submitted 30 days after receiving the reviewer’s feedback. Amended research papers must not exceed to 15% similarity index using Turnitin.
