The Institute of ASEAN-European Studies (IAES) of Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) successfully conducted its 7th Ambassador’s Lecture Series, highlighting the importance of developing diverse skills for future workforce success.
Students and teachers from HCDC, along with guests from the European Chamber of Commerce Philippines, Friends Network, American Corner-Ateneo De Davao University, St. Peter’s College of Toril Inc., and Central Mindanao Colleges attended the lecture series on July 11, 2024, at the Cross Theater, HCDC.
The guest speaker, Engr. Jason T. Occidental, director of the Innovation and Technology Support Office of AdDU, delivered insightful knowledge on the topic “The Future Workforce: Adapting Skills for Industry 4.0.”
He emphasized the importance of aligning Industry 4.0 skills with the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) to ensure that technological advancements not only drive economic growth but also contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world.
“Since we’re talking about the future of work, specifically in the education sector, we always think that our educational system is very outdated and there’s no hope for it, but it gives us alternatives on how we can still continue to be more competitive despite those kinds of challenges,” he said.
Engr. Occidental strongly urged the audience to actively pursue and develop a wide range of targeted skill sets, embrace various technologies, and master their effective use to prepare for their future careers. He emphasized the crucial significance of skill improvement and appropriate technology utilization in today’s generation.
“Don’t be afraid to learn, even if it’s not required by your classes, even if it’s not required by your degree. So be open to learning because maybe those learning opportunities would be necessary for you to become competitive in the workforce or maybe in the future diversity we might have,” he emphasized.
The Ambassador’s Lecture Series of HCDC continues to nurture its participants by focusing on academic discussions and adaptation of various skills through responsible utilization of modern technology and its advantages in elevating the quality of professional careers and helping them be ready for the future.
