To respond to the call of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and to answer the need of the depleting blood supply and reserves, a bloodletting program was initiated by the HCDC Medical-Dental Clinic and HCDC-NSTP in cooperation with the HCDC Red Cross Youth last June 30.
The ‘Dugong Selfless Servant Leaders Bloodletting Activity‘ was participated by the HCDC students, criminology interns, NSTP student volunteers, employees and the Philippine Coast Guard.
The said activity gathered 48 bags of blood or equivalent to 25,584cc of blood, which was forwarded to the Philippine Red Cross Davao City Chapter.
“Our bloodletting activity will be done every semester or twice a year and we are expecting that the next schedule of such activity will be in September in connection with the celebration of school foundation day,” school clinic in-charge, Ethel Mae Cabrera, RN said.
Donors were thankful to be part of this activity, especially because they were able to extend their moral obligation in promoting health and wellness to the community.
“The best feeling about donating blood is having the sense of being thankful for helping others in this small way. Despite the fear of needles, I chose to donate blood because it was in my heart,” Jennifer Elentorio, a donor student volunteer said.
The said program became a momentous day as it showed patriotism through donating blood to save the lives of those who are in need. (Jhunryl B. Orit, Cross Yearbook Scholar)
