Five students from the Holy Cross of Davao College were sent to Bali, Indonesia to immerse in a week-long academic and cultural exposure summer school program.
The international educational experience is organized by HCDC’s partner school, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (UNDIKSHA), and is co-funded by HCDC’s Linkages, Internationalization, and Language Studies (Link-In & LS), wherein HCDC’s delegates will explore the vibrance of Balinese culture, its music, arts, cuisine, as well as traditional and religious and educational landscape, from August 8-13, 2024.
International Student and Culture Club (ISaCC) Interim President and Bachelor of Science in Social Work student John Lloyd Santos said that the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience will significantly contribute to his growth, both as a student and as an individual.
“This opportunity allows me to explore a new culture, meet people from different backgrounds, and expand my academic and personal horizons. I’m excited to bring back new insights and ideas to share with my fellow students and community back home,” Santos said.
Supreme Student Government (SSG) President Arvin Jay Perez, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Specializing in Journalism and Broadcasting, also expressed his interest in engaging with UNDIKSHA’s student council.
“This interaction will allow me to gain strategies for managing our own student government and to strengthen the partnership between our student councils,” he said.
He emphasized that Holy Crossians, as stewards of peace, the experience will enhance the HCDC Community’s cultural sensitivity as the institution continues to thrive in the international stage of academic and cultural exposure.
Briel Jacob Arellano, a student of the Bachelor of Science in Psychology; Marian Therese Nellas, Bachelor of Special Needs Education; and Luisa Marie Reyes, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education also composed the five-member delegation, who underwent a rigorous selection to be qualified for the summer school program.
The students touched down in Indonesia last August 6 and will return to HCDC to share the things they have learned in Indonesia as part of the effort to promote cultural diversity and understanding.
