The Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) actively participated in the coordination meeting held to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Davao last April 3, 2024, at the Archbishop’s Residence in Davao City.

Mr. Kevin Paul Bonotan, the coordinator of the Center for Research, and Mr. Rhys Lloyd D. Lacia, representing the Institute of Davao Studies, represented HCDC.

The primary focus of the meeting was to plan the documentation of the Archdiocese’s history in preparation for its Diamond Jubilee celebration later in the year, with the culmination event scheduled for November. Collaborating closely with Rev. Fr. Russel A. Bantilles, the Director of the Archdiocesan Commission on Church Cultural Heritage, HCDC is committed to contributing to the writing of its historical narrative and assisting in curating an exhibit aligned with the jubilee’s theme “Journeying Together as a Synodal Church: Living Out the Spirituality of Stewardship in our Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs).”

Present also in the gathering were Davao Archbishop Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Davao Most Rev. George B. Rimando D.D., Pastoral Director of the Archdiocese of Davao Msgr. Julius Rodulfa, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish Priest Msgr. Paul Cuison.

The resulting historical account of the evangelization mission in Davao will not only commemorate its rich heritage but will also serve as a foundational resource for future endeavors. Moreover, it will pave the way for the documentation of local church histories, particularly within the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) and religious congregations that have played pivotal roles in the evangelization mission of the Catholic Church in the Davao Region.

Through this collaborative effort, HCDC, as an Archdiocesan educational institution, aims to contribute meaningfully to preserving and celebrating the religious and cultural legacy of the Archdiocese of Davao. (Rhys Lloyd D. Lacia)
