To manifest the mission of helping those in need, give joy to children and show the spirit of Christmas through sharing, the Holy Cross of Davao College through the Social Action Center, offices and departments, conducted an outreach program dubbed, Maagang Pamasko sa San Miguel Parish Marahan on December 11.
The school, headed by HCDC President Br. Noelvic Deloria, S.C. and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Teresa P. Fabiania, office heads and heads and representatives of the participating college programs handed out early Christmas presents to the indigent children of Barangay Marahan, Marilog District, Davao City.
Selected student leaders have facilitated the parlor games for children aged 6 to 12 years old.
Aside from the gift-giving activity, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Program also conducted a financial literacy seminar to the parents which aimed at teaching them how to budget, save, borrow and invest effectively and efficiently.
San Miguel Marahan Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Felix Bontog Jr. expressed his gratitude to the institution for initiating the activity.
“We are very happy and grateful that we are chosen as your institution’s beneficiary for this gift-giving and to be your partner community,” Fr. Bontog said.
Br. Deloria also thanked the San Miguel Parish Marahan for the warm accommodation and the participating departments and organizations in the gift-giving activity.
Meanwhile, Social Action Office Coordinator Dr. Jeralyn Palero also lauded the volunteers who helped them in the program.
“I am thankful for the partnership with the San Miguel Parish, especially Fr. Felix who does not hesitate to accept us, and also to all of the student leaders who volunteered to come with us to facilitate this activity, for all of your effort God will reward you,” Palero said.
Around 150 participants have attended the said event and received school supplies, toys, and food packages. The activity started with a eucharistic celebration followed by the prepared programs.
“I am very happy at the same time honored, since there are a lot of student leaders and out of the many students at HCDC we are the one of the chosen to join the event which is the Maagang Pamasko in San Miguel Parish Marahan. Also, by our small doings with the leadership of SAO, I was able to bring joy to the young people. And I would like to stress that Christmas is about giving and showing love to one another,” Kier Bacalso, 4th Year BS in Tourism Management Student and External Vice President of Association Tourism Leaders and Allied Students (ATLAS), said.
