Two students from the Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm) program of the Holy Cross of Davao College were co-awarded with a prestigious ‘Luntiang Pluma Award’, yesterday September 20.

Daniel III B. Jamito and Danica Raneses, fourth year students under the Journalism and Broadcasting specialization of the BA Comm program claimed their awards at SM City Annex, Ecoland, Davao City.

Their co-authored winning piece under the ‘Student Journalist Category’ titled ‘Bankerohan Public Market: A Challenge’, focused on the pressing garbage issue of the city’s largest market, and wherein they shared measures on how to mitigate the alarming concern.

The Davao City-wide competition was organized by the City Government of Davao’s Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS), in celebration of the Lunhaw Expo 2024. Jamito and Ranses were recognized for their ‘outstanding work in journalism that has brought to the public consciousness environmental issues in the city, encouraging us all to work towards a more sustainable and greener Davao City’.

Two alumni Nova Mae L. Francas and Ian Carl F. Espinosa, who studied BA Communication both specializing in Journalism and Broadcasting were also awarded under the Professional Journalists Category.

The awards by HCDC’s students and alumni reflects their commitment in being a selfless servant leaders for the community in upholding the value of integrity of creation and advocacy for a more eco-friendly community.

These milestones testify on the excellent education provided by the HCDC’s Bachelor of Arts in Communication in honing the skills of students from the academe to the society.
