Living the concept of stewardship, the Holy Cross of Davao College community started the third day of the 73rd Fiesta celebration with a Community Engagement Day on September 11, 2024.

On the said date, the HCDC Community celebrated its seventh-day novena mass presided by Fr. Jasper Louie Alfeche, DCD, at Sta. Ana Shrine Parish.

Part of the CIE Days, the celebration integrated the concept of stewardship and fulfilling one’s promise of taking care of the environment, one of which is a clean-up activity.

Early in the morning, right after the mass, selected students and employees were deployed to two different coastal areas to do coastal clean-up and mangrove planting.

The first group went to the Matina Aplaya Coastal area with HCDC President Br. Noelvic H. Deloria, S.C., along with the members of the Administration Team and selected employees and students, planted mangrove seedlings and cleaned the area.

The second group went to Brgy. San Juan Agdao for the coastal clean- up. Guided by Barangay officials, the faculty, employees, and students cleaned the coastal area.

Simultaneously, students and employees assigned at the HCDC campus cleaned the different areas and the immediate surrounding environs.

HCDC, in collaboration with the Philippine Eagle Foundation, launched the Environmental Footprint Exhibition, an ecotransformative event that underscores the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsibility, at the Second Floor Lobby. The exhibition also featured eco-actvities such as project pitching, talks, and short filmmaking.

At the Student Lounge, members of different religious clubs exhibited their organizations and organized various games and activities during the Religious Club Day. Inspired by Pope Francis’ call for a synodal Church, the activity emphasized that even among different beliefs and religions, we exist to unite with our loving Creator and are called to love and serve others.

In the afternoon, the Social Action Office, headed by Ms. Jeralyn Palero, spearheaded the Community Engagement Day presentation and the different social action activities wherein students and employees were made aware of the various social activities of the school, which they can join and participate in.
