The brilliant duo of Dolly Penaflorida and Carren Desiert defeated the pair of Shiela Traiga and Annalyn Diaz, 21-17, in the all-Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc. (HCDC) finals of the 5 th Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) Beach Volley Open at the Municipality of Peñaplata Freedom Park.

Penaflorida and Desierto, the tandem who topped the Mindanao elimination of the Nestea Beach Volley University Championship last year, displayed excellent teamwork all throughout the game to clinch the title.

Eventually, the two, who trounced their compatriots with their booming spikes and calculated skills at the home stretch, brought home a cash prize, a trophy, and a specially-crafted medal.

The event, which attracted best beach volley pairs coming from as far as Cebu City and Cagayan de Oro City, was one of the sporting activities tapped to highlight the IGACOS Festival 2006.

Five-foot-nine Penaflorida and Desierto won also the prestigious Philippine Sports Commission-Representative Prospero Nograles Beach Volley championship.

They are now shifting their mindset for the upcoming Mindanao Petron Beach Volley championship which is set to unfold on March 10-12 at the Paradise Island.
