Holy Cross of Davao College men and women spikers vie for top honors in the Mindanao leg eliminations of the annual Nestea Beach Volleyball University Championship on March 30 at the La Salle Greenhills sand court in Mandaluyong City.
The mens pair of Hudson Clenwar and Waylard Tegle and the duo of Dolly Peñaflorida and Annalyn Diaz in distaff side will not leave any stone unturned to advance in the next round.
The women's team will be mentored by Exequil Tomines while the men's squad will be handled by Abet Bernan.
Winners in the Mindanao leg will compete in Boracay for the semi-finals on May 3 and 4.
The National Championship for the ultimate beach volley showdown is set on May 5 also in Boracay.
The lady spikers topped the Mindanao elimination last year but finished 12th in the finals.
Holy Cross sports director Abraham Verdeprado is optimistic that his wards would enter the next round - the semi-finals.
"If they will play all hearts out, it's impossible that they could not make it to the finals. They must play hard in order to reach the finals", Verdeprado said.
Also joining the prestigious beach volleyball event are Ateneo de Davao University, University of Mindanao and Davao Doctors College.
About half a million pesos in prizes are at stake in the tournament. Last year, a big field of 64 school & shy; or a total of 128 teams & shy; vied for over P500,000 in prizes in the men and women divisions. |
