growth and development

Since its Conception in July 17, 1969, the Bachelor of Arts (AB) program through the years has continuously developed and grown.A manifestation of this fact that the program has granted a Level III accreditation status by PAASCU.

With a total student population of 828, the program is headed by Cristina M. Pendor, assisted by four subject area coordinators, namely: Cecilla Amora (Filipino), Eugenio Castardo (English), Therese Gay Cedeno-Tortor (Coll.'95) and Ramos (Coll.'87) are HCDC Alumni.

CRISTINA PENDOR
AB-Liacom Program Head
AB teachers who are alumni of HCDC are Estrella Berse-Salazar (Coll.'83), Katrina Posadas (Coll.'94), Democrito Buladaco (H.S '63) and Rowena Saveron (Coll. '89&'91). The program's areas of concentration are English, Economics, Filipino, General Science, History, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Political Science.

It is interesting to note that this year (2004), several beauties from the AB Program have emerged.

1.) Aileen Cainglet (AB Masscom) - Mutya ng Dabaw '04
2.) Anona Solas (AB-Masscom)-Mutya ng Dabaw '04 - 2nd runner-up
3.) Alma Ang (AB-English)-Hiyas sa Kadayawan '04
4.) Tony Michelle Su - Hiyas sa Kadayawan '04, 2nd runner-up.

EDUCATION ENROLMENT CONTINUES TO INCREASE
The Education Program experiences population growth and development in academic and non-academic performances. The results of Board Examinations have never been below the National cut-off. In fact, they are always much much higher. It has produced one national third placer, a mathematics major in the person of Henry Encabo.
DR. BERNARDITA ABERION
BSED/BEED PROGRAM HEAD
A number of schools in the city and in provinces get their teachers from the HCDC education program as evidenced by several calls and letters from school heads requesting for teachers. The program never experienced a downfall in population from 1983 to the present despite the school's selective admission and retention policy. This is because it has already established a name-Excellence in Teacher Education.

Our graduates have performed well in board examinations, not a hundred percent but quite a number to claim that Holy Cross has been contributing teachers quite well not only in Davao City but also in the whole of Mindanao.

The PAASCU visit last February 2004 was also a success giving the education program another five years.

PAASCU Grants level 3 accreditation to BSC

The Commerce Program was granted a Level I PAASCU accreditation in 1999. Exactly after a year, Level II was granted for a period of three years. On February 16-17, 2004 exactly three years after, PAASCU revisited the program which led to a Level III accreditation. On July 14, 2004 PAASCU President Ramon C. Reyes sent a communication granting the BSC a re-accreditation for a period of 5 years.

CRISTINA NACIONALES
BSC Program Head

PAASCU is scheduled for a revisit 5 years from now. Since the first accreditation of the Commerce Program in 1999, it has for its strengthened its instruction, faculty and other academic support services.

The Commerce Program has for its strength a strong faculty line-up. It is now 85% loaded with Masteral Degree Holders. The remaining 15% is expected to finish by Summer 2005. Also, the program has its best feature the Business Trade and Agri Fair, an academic related activity jointly participated in by the Commerce faculty members and students.

ENGINEERING PROGRAMS:
A response to global Communication

The advancement in engineering and the rapid growth in the global communication has made HCDC realize that the school has its share in developing globally competitive engineers, especially in the field of electronics and communications.

HCDCDC Engineering Faculty on PLC

Last year the BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering together with the BS Computer Engineering officially started with seven sections.

Providing quality education is a top priority of HCDC and though the engineering programs are still young, 94% of the CHED requirement has already been attained.

CoE:
The world of information and technology

The newly opened Computer Engineering (CoE) course in HCDC has a total population of 186 students with a faculty line-up composed of engineers who are mostly master's degree holders.
ENGR. ROWENA DE LIRA
BSCoE Program Head
The department aims to produce graduates that are marketable and competitive in the world of information and technology. It is equipped with modern facilities such as the computer laboratory with Pentium 4 PC's, a multi -media projector for computer subjects, a programmable logic controller, equipment for electronics and digital designs, microcontroller loaders/programmers, microprocessor trainors, CoE faculty line-up and the mentioned equipment make HCDC emerge above other schools offering quality computer engineering education.

Law mandates to produce globally competitive electronic engineers
The Electronics Engineering law of 2004 now provides a more responsive and comprehensive regulation in the practice of professional electronics engineers and electronics technicians, Said law also ensures that the practice of these highly skilled professionals shall be excellent and globally competitive.
ENGR. SONNY BOY ALMEROL
BSECE Program Head
