Nowadays, technology has somehow influenced or has even taken control over one's life in many more ways than he or she could at least imagine or think of. The probability of being completely overwhelmed with its features and attributes is so great that he or she could seemingly be striding in a trance for his or her daily existence. It has significantly affected his or her attention span, bringing it down to a minimum level. All this obviously poses a threat to humanity that cuts across all aspects of human nature, including the aspect of spirituality.
It is along those lines that the Office of the School Chaplain of the Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc., in collaboration with the Office of the Information Technology, has taken the initiative to come up with a set of creative catechetical materials, a one of its kind, as an attempt of alleviating the social impact of technology, harnessing the trend toward a positive spiritual direction.
The said catechetical materials are compilations of MP3s downloaded from the Internet, enhanced with religious icons and related visuals, and packaged similar to that of a sing-a-long or videoke format, converging "what's in" and "what's out." The select choice of songs ranges from non-religious OPM hits to foreign pop songs.
Basically, they are for educational purposes. They could also serve as an alternative means for reflection and evangelization and could be also used during recollections, retreats and creative liturgical celebrations among others. The immediate beneficiary of such materials is the HCDC community, but could also be shared to various organizations and/or individuals upon formal request and approval from HCDC Information Technology office.

[ MEDITATION, PENANCE & TRINITY ]
The songs here are the popular ones or already known and can quickly pick up to turn restless audience into a cooperative chorus. Simple songs are especially helpful to young people. Young audience may have difficulty following lectures/seminars or spiritual inputs; a song can help carry the message. Songs can help explaining difficult theological metaphors, too. Songs can help young audience remember your message whenever they hear the songs on air.
But you can’t sing? In using this MP3 Catechetical Video, you either lead the singing or the audiences themselves. Young audiences are easily distracted during lectures/inputs but all ears are open when the evangelizer/teacher bursts into song.
Young people are usually forgiving of our meager musical talents - & most adults will be happy if the young people are happy. Unless you are blessed with terrific voice or tremendous self-confidence, you will probably feel a little foolish the first time you lead the MP3 catechetical videoke. But go ahead. We can take the risk appearing foolish for few moments in order to better proclaim the Good News, as St. Paul said: we have been called to be ‘fools for the sake of Christ’ (1 Cor.4:10) . Master your courage. Practice while taking a bath. Then try it. Good luck fellow evangelizers & catechists!

Young people need good visual aid at least as much as adults do, but they seldom receive it. This is our attempt to provide one.
The purpose of this compilation is to encourage the use of contemporary music for catechetical instruction. This adaptation provides catechists and evangelizers with illustration and visual aids, help ReEd teachers plan lessons and give parents venue to sing-along with their children, either lead the children in the song or sing by themselves.
The enthusiastic Alejandro R. Balido II used the MP3 contemporary pop music since it was available in the internet. It could have been better if religious & Christian music in MP3 format is in the internet. With this, he simply inject spirituality and new way of looking into the meaning of each contemporary songs in this compilation.

ENDORSEMENT FROM JOHN XXIII Catechetical Center of the Archdiocese of Davao |
|
As people now a days ponder on the questions “ How can life still be beautiful and meaningful?”, “Why am I here?”, “Who is God?” and “Where is God?”, the Church must offer relevant and quality ways and means to supply their diverse quests that have LIFE as its meeting point.
The MP3, which is produced through the joint efforts of the HCDC’s School Chaplain, and the Staff of IT Office of HCDC, offers a concrete, relevant and quality alternative for the people of our time. By means of these secular songs that penetrate into our personal and collective lives, we can still discover God and His message that transform us as “beings towards becoming”.
The John XXIII Catechetical Center of the Archdiocese of Davao endorses HCDC’s MP3 so that our catechists, both in the parishes and in the schools, can help our people to explore the link between faith and life and eventually make this real in our day to day experience. Thus, Christians, and even those who are open for the Transcendence, are given quality formation through relevant information towards integral transformation.
Discovering God in contemporary music is a ‘eureka’ experience.
